“Imagine there’s no heaven, it’s easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky.”
So John Lennon famously sang, and so many of us would like to believe it. We assume that this life is all there is, and when we die we just rot in the ground. When we start to wonder if there’s something after death, we soon forget about it – we think it’s not important. But what if we’re wrong? What if death is not the end? What if what comes next is vitally important? What if there is a God who made everything and who sees me? What if He made me with a soul, a part of me that cannot die? What if when I die I meet this God and I have to give an account to Him of my life? The Bible says “man is destined to die once, and after that to face the judgement” (Hebrews 9v27) So death is NOT the end – we will all meet God, and we all face judgement because we have rejected Him – the Bible calls this ‘sin’. What is our only hope? The Bible goes on to say: “Jesus Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people, and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.”For those trusting in Christ, death is not the end, but a door to salvation. Are you waiting for Him? |
