| Who wins in the race of life? |

Somebody once said that "life was a rat race!" - meaning that we compete with each other (and climb over each other!) in a desperate desire to succeed. What do you think?
Have you noticed how brothers and sisters cannot help but compete and often say "it's not fair!" when we feel we are losing out ;we jockey for position to be noticed, to be liked, to be loved etc. TV is packed with reality shows where 1000s of ordinary people compete to be celebs. But what is success, anyway? We see many rich and famous who are desperately unhappy - Elvis and Marilyn Monroe are just 2 cases where the unhappiness became unbearable (yet they were both successful!). Jesus says that fame, wealth, popularity in this life count for nothing in the next life (after we breathe for the last time). Our bodies will decay or be burnt up but our souls go on forever in one of only TWO places - Heaven or Hell! Jesus says then that the race is not against others but against my SIN. Only Jesus can take it away and wash me clean from sin's stains. |
